Zits refer to blemishes appearing on your face during an acne breakout. Zits or pimples are small inflammations that appear on the surface of the skin. The overproduction of oil on the skin and the spread of acne-causing bacteria are common reasons zits occur, indicates MayoClinic.com. If your acne is not severe, home treatment can usually effectively clear up the skin. However, if home remedies do not work, contact your doctor. Untreated acne increases your risk of permanent scarring.

Step 1

Wash your face. Using a mild cleansing agent twice a day removes excess oil and prepares the skin for treatment. Gently massage the skin while cleansing and pat dry with a towel when finished.

Step 2

Use a mask. Mix together 1/2 cup rosewater and 1/2 cup lemon juice. Apply the mixture to your skin using a clean washcloth. Leave the solution on your face for approximately 15 minutes before rinsing with cool water.

Step 3

Control oil on your face. Hats, cell phones and tight clothing can transfer oil to your face and worsen acne. Wear your hair tied back and away from your face. Avoid touching the pimple even if you experience irritation.

Step 4

Drink nettle tea. Steep nettle leaves in a cup of boiling water for five minutes. Add honey to improve the taste of the tea. Consume the entire cup of tea in one sitting to treat your acne. Nettle works by treating the inflammation associated with zits, according to the GrannyMed website.

Step 5

Wear oil-free cosmetics. Certain products also have built-in pimple treating ingredients, such as foundations and concealers with salicylic acid. The salicylic acid reduces excess oil by increasing the rate of cell turnover.

Things You'll Need

  • 1/2 cup rosewater
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice
  • Nettle leaves
  • 8 oz. boiling water
  • Mild face wash
