Dr. Ohhira Probiotics is a fermented, vegetarian blend of probiotics that may benefit digestive, immune and skin health. Unlike many other top-quality probiotic products, Dr. Ohhira's Probiotics does not require refrigeration. The unique herbal components of this product are thought to increase the viability and efficacy of probiotic bacteria. Dr. Ohhira Probiotics is considered to be safe for use in adults as well as children and infants.

Probiotic Bacterial Strains

Dr. Ohhira's Probiotics contains 12 strains of probiotic, lactic acid bacteria. According to product information provided by Dr. Ohhira, these 12 probiotic bacteria help to recolonize the intestines with healthy bacteria that can help to protect your body against pathogenic bacteria. The 12 strains found in Dr. Ohhira's Probiotics include Bifidobacterium breve ss. Breve, Bifidobacterium infantis ss. Infantis, Bifidobacterium longum, Enterococcus faecalis TH10, Lactobacillus brevis, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Lactobacillus casei ss. Casei, Lactobacillus fermentum, Lactobacillus helveticus ss. Jagurti, Lactobacillus plantarum and Streptcoccus thermophilus.

Fruit Extracts

Dr. Ohhira's Probiotics also contain a blend of fruit extracts. Dr. Ohhira lists these extracts as Chinese lycium, Chinese wild vine, Chinese bayberry, mulberry, strawberry and oleaster. This blend of fruit extracts helps to promote digestion and also helps to keep probiotic bacteria viable during their shelf life.

Seaweed

Dr. Ohhira's Probiotics contains two seaweed extracts that may also benefit digestion. According to Dr. Ohhira as well as Dr. Ronald Hoffman, the seaweed ingredients of Dr. Ohhira's Probiotics include sea tangle (Laminaria japonica) and brown seaweed (Hizikia fusiforme).

Herbal Ingredients

Dr. Ohhira's lists two herbs as ingredients in his probiotic product that can help with digestive issues. These herbs are mugwort and plantain. Acupuncture Today explains that mugwort and plantain are traditionally used in Chinese medicine to increase liver, spleen and kidney function.

Herb and Plant Blend

In addition to the fruit, seaweed and herbal extracts listed above, Dr. Ohhira also adds a proprietary blend of 82 additional herbs, plants and fruits to his probiotic product. The identity of these herbs and plants has not been confirmed. According to a review of Dr. Ohhira's Probiotics by Dr. Ben Kim, this proprietary blend of plants and herbs may help with the fermentation process of the probiotic bacteria.

Vitamins and Minerals

Dr. Ohhira's Probiotics is supplemented with a number of vitamins, minerals and amino acids. Dr. Ronald Hoffman lists the vitamin and minerals of Dr. Ohhira's Probiotics as thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6, folic acid, vitamin B12, biotin, pantothenic acid, inositol, carotene, calcium, iron, phosphorus, magnesium, zinc, manganese, sodium and potassium. Small amounts of 18 amino acids are also added to Dr. Ohhira's Probiotics.
