In 2010, the Centers for Disease Control declared that if obesity trends continue, nearly 83 percent of American adults will be obese by 2030. Obesity can lead to years of suffering from various degenerative diseases like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, some cancers and failure of internal organs. A low-fat, plant-based diet can help to detoxify your body, which is one of the most effective ways to lose weight.

Vegetarian

The Physician's Committee for Responsible Medicine states that you can find all the protein your body needs from plants. Vegetarian diets are typically lower in fat and cholesterol than the standard American diet; however, they can be high in saturated fats if you eat too much whole-milk dairy or eggs. Instead, eat a diet with low-fat, organic dairy, and consume free-range organic eggs sparingly, as they contain a high amount of cholesterol per egg, which can lead to high blood pressure and cardiovascular health issues. Plants offer an abundant amount of protein mainly from whole grains, legumes, seeds and nuts. Plant proteins especially recommended for a low-fat diet are organic soybeans and quinoa, which are high in protein per weight and equivalent to meat in the amount of protein, and contain the essential amino acids. Plus, they are high in fiber and nutrient-rich, which helps keep your appetite satisfied for a longer period of time.

Vegan

Vegan diets are similar to vegetarian diets, except they do not include dairy or eggs. This diet is naturally low-fat. Fats from vegetables, nuts and seeds are either polyunsaturated or monounsaturated and do not contain a high amount of low-density lipoprotein, also known as LDL, or "bad" cholesterol.

Raw Vegan

Eating a raw vegan diet is the fastest way to lose weight. In a raw vegan diet, food is uncooked or cooked below 116 degrees Fahrenheit. A cooked vegan diet may contain some high-calorie and high-glycemic foods like pastas and breads that prevent weight loss, but a raw foods diet generally contains low-calorie and low-glycemic foods. When your liver is at peak performance, it can process contaminants out of your body easily, says Dr. Brian Nowak-Thompson, professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Cornell College; if you have too many toxins in your body, they accumulate and your body coats them with fat. According to David Wolfe, a raw vegan expert, author and speaker, raw foods contain an abundance of vitamins and antioxidants that help detoxify your body for continued weight loss.
