Exercises for Facial Muscles

Many individuals forget the face when performing daily workouts. However, the face contains dozens of muscles that need to be exercised every day also. Facial exercises may help prevent drooping and saggy skin and excess accumulation of fat around the eyes. They could even help reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Daily facial exercises will keep your face looking healthy, fresh and offer that resilient glow that makeup cannot offer.

Step 1

Tone the face muscles by performing a variety of facial exercises that target specific areas of the face. For example, a forehead exercise that helps reduce tension and the sight and appearance of wrinkles can be done by placing your index fingers directly over the eyes. Look straight ahead. Try to close the eyes while, at the same time, lifting the eyebrows. Do this exercise 10 times.

Step 2

Reduce the sight of wrinkles or help prevent them in the first place by sitting still and closing the eyes. Relax. Lift your eyebrows as high as you can while gently pulling downward on the corners of your eyes. Hold the stretch for a count of 10 and then relax. Repeat this exercise about 10 times.

Step 3

Firm the lips by sucking on a finger as tightly as you can and then slowly trying to extract the finger from the mouth. This is an exercise you will want to do in the privacy of your own home, but one that will help firm the lips and the area around the mouth.

Step 4

Tone the cheeks by pretending you are a fish. Pull in your cheeks and pull your lips together. Suck in your cheeks and purse your lips, and hold for a count of five. Relax and then repeat five to six times. Another great exercise to invigorate the cheeks with blood for a youthful appearance is to place the pads of your fingers on the middle of each cheek. Tilt the head slightly upward. Push the cheeks downward while trying to lift the cheeks at the same time, smiling a full, beautiful smile. Do this exercise about five to 10 times.
