Overview

Maintaining your weight doesn't get any easier as you age, and one of the most common complaints is that desk jobs create a stagnant routine that keeps individuals busy and makes it hard for them to lead active lives. This is particularly for those who eat out frequently as a part of their job. But having a desk job doesn't mean you can't adopt healthy habits to maintain and even lose weight. What's most important is that you take advantage of little opportunities throughout the day.

Step 1

Eat a balanced breakfast every morning. This will get your metabolism going and help you avoid gorging at lunch because you're starving.

Step 2

Eat meals away from your desk. Multi-tasking distracts you from eating and your body's indications of fullness or satiety.

Step 3

Pack your own lunch for work. Include fruit for dessert and lean proteins such as chicken or turkey.

Step 4

Use breaks at work to go on a walk, rather than sitting in a break room or around a water cooler.

Step 5

Grab lunch at a local grocery store's salad bar instead of fast food.

Step 6

Keep backup meals such as healthy frozen dinners or granola bars at the office for days when your first option for a meal fails you.

Step 7

Eat lighter dinners loaded with roughage foods such as fruits and vegetables.
