Most skin care lines marketed to adult women will have at least one anti-wrinkle product in their arsenal. Merle Norman is no exception. Its Luxiva line contains a series of products called wrinkle smoothers that are designed to address many common signs of skin aging.
History
Merle Nethercutt Norman started the Merle Norman Co. in the late 1920s. Her marketing approach of "Try Before You Buy" continues to this day. According to the Merle Norman website, the company also invented the "Before and After" makeover. Merle Norman manufactures its products in the USA and sells them at privately owned franchises throughout the United States and several other countries. The company's headquarters is in Los Angeles.
Active Ingredients
Merle Norman formulates its Luxiva wrinkle smoother products with the active ingredient argireline. This synthetic hexapeptide works in a similar manner to botulism neurotoxins by inhibiting neurotransmitter release, which helps reduce the facial expressions that cause wrinkles. Topical argireline products are not as effective as botulism neurotoxin injections but may be a safer alternative.
The Merle Norman website does not list all the ingredients that make up its wrinkle-smoothing formulas, but it does mention three additional ingredients in the Luxiva lip treatment: marine-derived collagen, which helps plump the lips, and extracts of heather and white tea, which contain firming and protective properties.
Available Products
The Merle Norman Luxiva line contains several wrinkle smoother products: a daily moisturizer, eye treatment, lip treatment and a lift-and-firm serum. You can use the products individually or in conjunction with each other. Try them out prior to purchasing at Merle Norman stores.
Time Frame
It might take up to four weeks of continuous use for you to see visible anti-aging effects from Luxiva wrinkle smoother products. According to consumer feedback, however, a decrease in dark circles and under-eye puffiness might be apparent after just one use of the wrinkle smoother eye product.
Research
A 10 percent argireline, oil and water emulsion reduced wrinkle depth 30 percent in 30 days on healthy female volunteers, according to a study published in 2002 in the "International Journal of Cosmetic Science." Merle Norman does not divulge the concentration of argireline in its wrinkle smoothing products but states that consumer evaluations found them beneficial.
