Zinc is a mineral important for human health. It may improve the immune system, prevent infection, and be effective in the treatment of asthma and other chronic health problems. Magnesium is an important mineral for the proper functioning of the brain, heart and muscles. You can obtain zinc and magnesium through dietary sources. Some people, however, may require or choose to obtain these minerals through supplement form in order to prevent or correct deficiencies. It is important to be aware that some side effects may occur upon consumption.

Serious Side Effects of Magnesium

Supplementing with magnesium can sometimes lead to severe side effects. MayoClinic.com advises that you contact your doctor immediately if you experience severe side effects. These include fainting, flushing, dizziness, muscle paralysis and difficulty breathing. If you received an injection of magnesium, a severe side effect may also be experienced as pain at the site of injection.

Mild Side Effects of Magnesium

Some side effects may go away as you continue to take your supplements and do not require a doctor's attention. This may include diarrhea. If this becomes bothersome, MayoClinic.com advises you check with your physician.
