Mediterranean

The Mediterranean diet is helpful to lose extra weight because it contains no processed foods. The Mediterranean diet focuses on eating fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and legumes. Fish and lean meats like chicken are also included in the diet, and red meat is omitted. Healthy fats like monounsaturated fats are emphasized. Olive oil is consumed in place of butter. This diet promotes weight loss because it is low in calories and low in unhealthy fats. According to MayoClinic.com, this diet also helps to reduce the risk of cancers and cardiovascular disease.

Weight Watchers

Weight Watchers is a diet that focuses on portion control. Many foods are allowed on this diet, so it will give you a sense of satiation. Weight Watchers is successful if a 10-pound weight loss is your goal because it is all about the number of calories you consume. Weight Watchers gives you a specific amount of points for the day, based on your goal and how many calories you need. Limiting the amount of calories you eat will directly reflect the number on the scale.

Zone Diet

The Zone diet is about eating all things in moderation. No foods are off limits; instead there is an idea of balance in all foods. The Zone diet consists of 40 percent carbohydrates, 30 percent fat and 30 percent protein. Any food can be consumed as long as you stay within the percentages for the day.
