Vitamin water, also known as vitamin-enhanced water, is a bottled beverage. The water has been fortified with a variety of vitamins and minerals. Vitamin water may also contain sweeteners and other additives that increase its calorie content, MayoClinic.com reports. Vitamin water is not as effective in providing you with nutrients and water as a balanced meal, but there are benefits of vitamin water that have some merit.

Measure Water Intake

You require a certain amount of water per day to meet your body's needs. According to the Washington Post, you need one ml of water for each calorie you consume. Most diets range from 1,800 to 2,000 calories per day and therefore, you need approximately one to two liters of water daily. This equals six to eight glasses of water a day. Sometimes it may be difficult to drink enough water or keep track of the water you drink throughout the day. However, by consuming bottles of vitamin water, typically sold in pre-measured bottles, you can easily monitor your daily water intake. This method ensures that you are getting enough fluids to stay healthy.

Pregnancy Benefits

A special type of vitamin-enhanced water is been marketed for pregnant women, according to the American Pregnancy Association. This vitamin water is enriched with vitamins that pregnant women require, such as folic acid, a vitamin critical for normal fetal growth. The water also provides the necessary hydration you need to sustain your health and the health of your unborn child. As with all nutritional supplements, consult your obstetrician prior to taking vitamin water.

Increase Vitamin Intake

Vitamins are essential nutrients that your body needs to function. Vitamins A, D, E and K are all fat-soluble vitamins that are stored within your fat cells. You rarely suffer a deficiency of these vitamins. Vitamin C and the B vitamins are water-soluble and are typically secreted from the body. Therefore, you need a daily source of these vitamins. Vitamin water, which is typically rich in vitamin C and B vitamins, can provide you with these essential vitamins. However, you should not attempt to replace a healthy, well-balanced diet with vitamin water. Vitamin water can provide you with an excess of some vitamins, and this excess may cause some adverse side effects. Always consult a physician prior to adding any type of vitamin or nutrient supplement to your diet.
