Bullhead City is located where Arizona, Nevada and California join. Thanks to Bullhead's warm climate, tent camping can be enjoyed year-round. With summer highs sometimes exceeding 110 degrees, fall, winter and spring are typically the mildest times of year, with winter temperatures occasionally reaching 80 degrees. These three seasons are excellent for fishing, boating, golfing, hiking and cycling.

County Camping Facilities

Located off Highway 68, in Bullhead City, Davis Camp is one of the Mojave County Parks. Nestled on the shores of the Colorado River, Davis has two areas you can enjoy for tent camping--South Beach and North Beach. The South Beach campsite has 20 sites with shade ramadas, barbecues and picnic tables. This campsite is located near the boat launch, making it perfect if you'd like to spend your visit boating or jet skiing. The North Beach campsite is just below Davis Dam and has 50 sites with shade ramadas. It has more than a half-mile of sandy shores and is the site you'll prefer if you'd like to focus on fishing during your visit. The striped bass world record was caught just below Davis Dam, weighing in at 59 lbs. 12 oz.

State Camping Facilities

Just a few miles south of Bullhead City, the Big Bend of the Colorado Recreation Area, in Nevada, offers excellent camping facilities along the river. There are 24 RV sites at the Big Bend with tent pads for tent camping. Not only will you appreciate the shade ramadas, but also the barbecue grills and fire pits located at each site. There are restroom and shower facilities on-site, for your use as well. With its location on the Colorado River, fishing and boating are a popular activity your family will enjoy. In addition, you can explore the four-mile hiking trail, or explore the hundreds of acres of undeveloped land.

Privately Owned Campgrounds

In addition to state and county camping facilities, there are numerous privately owned campgrounds in the Bullhead City area. A few of these campgrounds offer RV sites as well as tent camping sites. Just 20 miles to the south, Needles has two private campgrounds that offer facilities for tent camping. Needles Marina Park offers riverside camping year-round. Some of the tent camping sites are located along a sandy swimming beach. There is also a swimming pool on-site and boat slips and launch available for your use. The Needles KOA campground offers tent camping sites, along with RV sites and KOA Kabin rentals. While there, you can enjoy their swimming pool that's open all year.

National Park Facilities

Less than 20 miles southwest of Bullhead City, in California, you can enjoy tent camping in the Mojave National Preserve. The preserve features not only developed campgrounds, but also roadside sites and backpacking camping. There are two developed, family campgrounds--Hole-in-the-Wall and Mid Hills. You can explore the sculpted walls made from volcanic rock or use this campsite as a base to hike Mitchell Caverns that are nearby. Also be sure to take a hike through the world's largest Joshua Tree forest on Teutonia Peak trail. This is a four-mile trail with scenic views of Cima Dome. Other hiking trails you'll want to explore include: the easy quarter-mile Lake Tuendae Nature Trail or the six-mile Barber Peak Loop Trail that goes past the Opalite Cliffs. If you'd like more of a challenge, the three-mile Kelso Dunes trail takes you through the sand dunes.
