Things to Do in NYC This Summer

New York is known for a plethora of attractions and featured locations that visitors and residents alike can enjoy. There are museums, shopping centers, historical buildings and popular locations internationally known in this major metropolis. This cultural center of the East Coast has indoor and outdoor recreational options available for fitness enthusiasts during the summer that includes a wide range of activities that are fun, exciting and adventurous.

Bike Tours

When visiting New York this summer there are several bicycling tours available. Areas covered range from Harlem and Brooklyn, as well as Central Park and city tours that cover various areas such as Times Square, Little Italy and Madison Square Park. In Central Park, bike tours cover attractions such as Belvedere Castle and Strawberry Fields. Central Park Bike Tours offers guests who want to partake in a summer bike riding tour bike rentals along with the daily guided tours.

Bowling

Though it does not afford the complete appreciation of the outdoor splendor found during the summer in New York, bowling is still a fun and popular recreational activity for those seeking both fitness and entertainment. One location for bowling is 300 New York that offers bowling with a twist with features such as a summer club for kids that includes free equipment rental and a gourmet dining experience with options such as marinated beef skewers with cilantro-chipotle cream.

Golfing

The Golf Club at Chelsea Piers has special hours for July 4 when golfing is available until the early afternoon hours. In addition to summer golfing, there are lessons available at the Golf Club at Chelsea Piers and other features such as tournaments. Just outside of Manhattan in Tenafly, New Jersey, the Knickbocker Country Club is a golf club that is family-oriented and has full amenities such a swimming pool and tennis courts. This destination is so close to downtown New York that the Empire State Building can be seen from here.

Swimming

As swimming is a popular swimming activity across America, this is also true for visitors and residents in New York as there are different swimming options available. For swimmers who are also inspired by luxurious surroundings, many of the local upscale hotels in the area such as that Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan offer non-guests full access to the 15th floor pool for a fee.

Walking Tours

Sightseeing by way of a guided tour is one way to enjoy the streets of New York during the summer. There are private and group guided tours that take walkers on an exploration of New York City’s history, architecture and culture. Some of the more popular areas where tours take place include Manhattan and Brooklyn. At Gotham Walking Tours, all of the tour guides are Harvard and New York University trained.
