Facts on Sacred Heart Diet

1. One Diet With Many Different Names

Supporters of the Sacred Heart Diet erroneously state that the diet is endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA) and developed by the cardiology department at Sacred Heart Memorial Hospital in Spokane, Washington. It has also been called the Spokane Diet and the Cleveland Clinic Diet. The Sacred Heart Diet promises rapid weight loss under the alias of various other fad diets. The diet requires daily consumption of a special vegetable soup recipe in conjunction with the intake of other specific foods. Neither Sacred Heart nor the AHA claims any responsibility for developing or of endorsing the diet. Both say the promised rapid weight loss is temporary and the plan focuses too much on certain foods. Each organization endorses a more balanced sustainable eating plan conducive to a dieter's personal lifestyle.

2. Eat a Special Soup

The quick weight loss is attributed to a diet based mainly on a soup that varies slightly depending on the source you consult. Generally the Sacred Heart Diet soup includes tomatoes, green onions, no fat broth, soup mix, celery, peppers and a variety of other vegetables. Each day, you pair the soup with a very specific set of foods ranging from all the fruits and veggies you want to only beef, lean meats, brown rice or bananas and milk. Although the foods you can eat while on the diet vary each day, they are all low in calories. The changing menu allows you some variety.

3. You're not Allowed to Cheat

You may not cheat. You can eat as much of the soup and that day's food group, but nothing else. If variety is the spice of your life, the Sacred Heart Diet is absolutely not the fad diet for you.

4. No Beer and Soda pop

If you think your food choices are limited, consider the limited beverage list. Your clever plan to get through the monotony of this diet by drinking the letters of the alcohol alphabet from Ale to Zombie shots or the colors of the soda rainbow from orange to pink lemonade won't work. The diet allows only consumption of three low-calorie liquids: sugar-free tea, coffee and water.

5. Fad Diets Don't Work

You know the answer, you just don't want to hear it. Because of your reduced calorie intake, you will lose weight while on the Sacred Heart diet, but the moment that you return to normal eating patterns, you will regain the lost weight.
