Explore one of the natural wonders of the world in Ontario, Canada. Located on the American border of Buffalo, New York, is Niagara Falls, Canada. The Canadian Horseshoe Falls are viewable from the observation decks, or explore the falls through a boat tour. Either way, the view is breathtaking but best seen June through October. From brisk walking to indoor skydiving, Niagara Falls elevates heart rates slowly or drastically. Niagara Falls is perfect for a weekend getaway, but remember passports are required to cross the international borders.
Walking
Observe the waters of the Great Gorge Rapids as the water accelerates at nearly 35 miles per hour, creating a possible class six rapid. The White Water Walk is located approximately two and a half miles north of the falls on Niagara Parkway. View the trillions of gallons of water of this dangerous river and learn the history of past pioneers who dared to conquer the falls. A small admission fee is required.
Walkers also may enjoy the 40-hectare Botanical Gardens. Located 10 minutes north of the falls, walkers utilize the garden trail to view more than 2,400 roses and the various plant life.
Biking
Cyclists utilize the paved Niagara River Recreation Trail, which is 35 miles (56 km) in length. This trail encompasses the cities of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Niagara Falls and Fort Erie as it passes through the butterfly conservatory, Niagara Falls Museums and the historic Fort Erie houses. From history, this trail was once described by Sir Winston Churchill as "the prettiest Sunday afternoon drive in the world."
Sport Fishing
Fishing in Niagara Falls allows fishermen to take a chance at catching "rainbow trout, brown trout, salmon, lake trout, musky and smallmouth bass." With the options to fish in Lake Ontario, Lake Erie or the Niagara River, guided charter tours sport fish in these locations. Natural Wonders Angling Adventures features single to multiday fishing trips for novice and expert fishermen. Tours are lead through experienced guides, and all equipment for fishing is provided.
Skydiving
Skydiving over Niagara Falls would be magnificent but extremely dangerous. The Niagara Freefall and Interactive Center features indoor skydiving in a vertical air wind tunnel. With air speed up to 120 miles per hour, all flyers receive proper professional training prior to "skydiving." From flips to sky tricks, divers have the opportunity to purchase coaching lessons and take home a souvenir DVD of the experience. Novice to expert indoor skydivers are welcome to the facility, which is located on Stanley Avenue.
Family Activities
Get wet and wild in the three-acre Fallsview Indoor Waterpark. With 16 water slides, adult Jacuzzis, wave pool, beach house and an outdoor sundeck, families and children splash around for hours at the 125,000-square-foot facility. Fallsview welcomes tiny tots to adults to enjoy the pools of the family play areas. If swimming builds an appetite, Fallsview is located above the Planet Hollywood Beach Club for a tasty meal. Group events and birthday parties are available for rent.
