Sainsbury's is a supermarket chain based in the United Kingdom. The first shop was opened in London in 1869, and sold grocery products. Today Sainsbury's stores sell a wide range of goods including home and garden tools, kitchen appliances and items relating to sport and leisure. The company sells thousands of food items, many of them manufactured under the Sainsbury brand. Sainsbury's dried fruits and nut bags are available in several varieties and sizes.

Basics Fruit and Nut Mix

Sainsbury's "Basics" is the store's discount brand. These foods are in minimal plain packaging to keep prices low. Basics Fruit and Nut Mix is available in bags of 800 g. The mix contains raisins, dried cranberries and apricots, and several types of nuts. A 100 g portion of Basics Fruit and Nut Mix provides 409 calories, and around 23 g of fat. It also contains almost 35 g of sugar. A 100-g serving of this mix has 5 g of fiber. Fiber is important if you are on a weight-loss diet, because it keeps you feeling full and less likely to crave sugary foods, according to the Ask Dr. Sears website.

Unsalted Mixed Nuts & Raisins

Sainsbury's unsalted mixed nuts and raisins are sold in 200-g bags. This product is comprised of raisins and several types of nuts, including almonds, pecans and hazelnuts. A 100-g serving contains 509 calories and 37 g of fat. It has 24.6 g of sugar and 4.8 g of dietary fiber, according to MySupermarket.

Fruit Nut & Seed Mix

Sainsbury's fruit, nut and seed mix is sold in 250-g bags, that contain a mix of dried fruits, cashew nuts and sunflower seeds. A 100-g portion has 482 calories, a little over 30 g of fat and 23 g of sugar. The mix provides 6.4 g of fiber per 100 g.

With Yogurt Cranberries

Sainsbury's fruit and nut mix with yogurt-coated cranberries is sold in bags containing 200 g. The mix comprises raisins, almonds and peanuts, as well as cranberries and yogurt-coated cranberries. A 100-g serving has 462 calories, 44 g of sugar and 25 g of fat. One hundred grams of this mix additionally provides 5.9 g of fiber.

Taste the Difference

The "Taste the Difference" food selections at Sainsbury's are aimed at shoppers who are more interested in high quality and taste than in low prices. Taste the Difference Fruit, Nut & Seed Mix is available in 250-g packs, and contains Brazil nuts, pumpkin seeds and several dried fruits including raisins, cranberries and blueberries. A 100-g serving of the Taste the Difference mix has 505 calories, 35 g of fat and 25 g of sugar. There is also 6.3 g of dietary fiber in each 100-g serving.

Considerations

Although Sainsbury's dried fruit and nut bags are high in calories, this is mostly due to the high fat content of the nuts; the fats contained in nuts are the "good" types, namely monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. According to Heart.org, both monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats may help lower blood cholesterol levels when they are consumed in place of the "bad" saturated and trans fats. In her book "The Flat Belly Diet," Liz Vaccariello says eating a small amount of monounsaturated fatty acids with each meal will help reduce belly fat.
