Supplements for Strength

Being fit and healthy means having a strong and lean body. People exercise regularly, eat a balanced diet and take supplements not only to get in shape but also to improve their muscle strength. As people age, muscle mass and density decreases, which if left ignored, causes the increase of the percentage of body fat. Strengthening the body develops strong bones, well-toned muscles, better balance and improved stamina.

Fish Oil Supplements

According to Medline Plus, taking fish oil supplements can help strengthen the body. Fish oil, in the form of oral supplements, contain omega-3 fatty acids, a form of nutritious unsaturated fat that has many health benefits. These supplements, usually found combined with other vitamins and minerals such as calcium and vitamins C, D and E, help improve blood flow and circulation. It also prevents heart disease by keeping the blood pressure as well as cholesterol and triglyceride levels low. Taking fish oil can strengthen weak bones and prevent muscle strains and soreness.

Calcium Supplements

Taking calcium supplements can provide the bones and muscles with increased strength. The Office of Dietary Supplements stresses adequate levels of calcium to maintain bone health and to keep the bones strong with decreased occurrences of fractures. As a person ages, the bones in the body wear out and decreased calcium levels may result in conditions such as osteoarthritis in which stiffening occurs in the bone joints.

Amino Acid Supplements

According to Kids Health.org, a website supported by the National Institutes of Health, amino acid supplements help strengthen the body. These organic compounds can either be essential or nonessential. Amino acids contribute to protein synthesis; protein is a compound that acts as the primary building block for tissues, bones and muscles. Amino acids also help with food breakdown and energy conversion. Taking amino acids supplements can help boost energy levels as well as improve muscle strength. People who do not get enough protein in their diets can benefit from this supplement.
