Rich, creamy, smooth and sweet, chocolate cream pie epitomizes comfort food. Unfortunately, you cannot take comfort in its nutrition. Chocolate cream pie has an unhealthy amount of fat, calories and refined carbohydrates, all of which can spell trouble for your body.
Calories
While Kirkland brand from Costco does not publish the nutritional content of its pies, most chocolate cream pies contain the same basic ingredients. The total calories of commercially available pies hover at about 340 calories per a sixth of an 8-inch pie, but can range from as low as about 160 to as high as 630 calories.
Carbohydrates
A significant amount of the calories in Kirkland Chocolate Cream Pie comes from carbohydrates in the form of refined white sugar. Each slice contains from about 50 to 60 g of carbohydrates, with about 30 g coming from sugar.
Fat
About 30 to 35 percent of the total calories come from fat, or about 20 to 30 g of fat per a sixth of an 8-inch pie. Much of this fat -- anywhere between 6 and 17 g -- comes from saturated fat. Saturated fat increases your risk for heart disease by increasing your levels of LDL, or "bad," cholesterol, according to MayoClinic.com.
