Twinings of London, a manufacturer of herbal teas, sells pure green tea without any additives. Twinings green tea contains no calories, according to Fat Secret, but it is thought to have some health benefits. Green tea extracts can treat warts and may decrease the level of fat in the blood, according to MedlinePlus, but there is not enough proof that it can prevent breast cancer or stroke.

Polyphenols

Green tea contains polyphenols, which have powerful antioxidant properties, notes the University of Maryland Medical Center. Polyphenols may prevent inflammation and rid the body of free radicals, which is one cause of cancer and aging.

Caffeine

Green tea contains caffeine, which may cause mental alertness and may help with your weight loss efforts, according to studies cited by the University of Maryland Medical Center. However, the caffeine content in green tea can also result in insomnia, anxiety or irritability.

Vitamin K

Green tea contains a small amount of vitamin K, which plays a role in blood clotting. Unfortunately, vitamin K causes blood-thinning medications to be ineffective, so do not drink green tea without consulting your physician if you are on a blood-thinning drug, advises the University of Maryland Medical Center.
