Weight loss is challenging and requires a total lifestyle and mindset change. Not only must you adjust the way that you eat, but also the ways in which you think about food and exercise. Life coaches work with people to assist them in making changes that they see as necessary in their lives. Instead of a relationship consisting of a professional and client in a therapy setting, life coaches embrace this relationship as a nonjudgmental partnership that facilitates goal setting and behavior modification.
Step 1
Discuss your weight-loss goals with your physician and ask for a referral to a life coach who specializes in weight loss. Your physician will be able to assist you in determining an appropriate weight-loss goal and identifying specific areas of your life that need to be changed to facilitate weight loss. Your life coach will then be able to assist you in making those changes.
Step 2
Contact the International Coach Federation for a referral to a life coach specializing in weight loss.
Step 3
Visit weight-loss groups, such as Take Off Pounds Sensibly, and ask for a referral to a life coach for weight loss.
Step 4
Contact fitness clubs and wellness centers and see if they can connect you with a life coach. Some of these clubs and centers may have life coaches that specialize in weight loss on staff.
