High-fructose corn syrup is a sweetener and preservative that is commonly put in numerous packaged and processed foods. It is a form of sugar that combines cane and beet sugar and is added to foods as a way to extend their shelf life. Since high fructose could have a link to obesity, you may want to limit foods that contain this ingredient.
Soda
Soft drinks have high fructose in them, including lemon and lime soda, colas and canned fruit drinks.
Fast Food
Numerous items at fast-food restaurants have a lot of fructose. Included items are sandwich rolls, special flavoring sauces, pancakes, milk shakes, salad dressings, dessert cakes and apple pies.
Jams
Jams and jellies that you find in the supermarket will have high fructose in them. Different jam varieties with the sugary sweetener include grape, strawberry and peach.
Condiments
The sweet taste that you detect in many condiments is likely high fructose corn syrup. Condiments that contain high fructose are ketchup, barbecue sauce, sweet and sour sauce, chipotle and mustards. Many dressings will also have high fructose, like vinaigrette salad dressings, balsamic, ranch and Thousand Island.
Boxed Cereals
Some boxed cereals contain extremely large amounts of fructose, with some varieties having nearly 10,000mg per serving. Included types are Raisin Bran, Cocoa Puffs, Corn Flakes, Lucky Charms and Cocoa Krispies. Cereal bars also have high fructose content, including varieties made by Kellogg's and PowerBar.
Chips
Potato chips, corn chips and other snack chip varieties contain an increased amount of high fructose corn syrup in their recipes.
