The process of aging, marked by a decrease in the production of natural oils, diminishes the skins elasticity and makes it more fragile. This, coupled with the loss of fat in deeper skin layers, can cause face and neck skin to show pronounced wrinkles and create fleshy, drooping cheeks or jowls. The loss of flexibility in facial skin also decreases its ability to spring back, potentially making the grooves formed by facial expressions permanent. There are exercises you can do to tone your facial muscles and stimulate oil production.

Chew-Chew

To work the muscles in your neck and throat, sit upright with your head tilted back. With your lips closed, simulate a chewing motion. Repeat the motion 20 times.

The Kiss

Sit upright, keeping your mouth closed and head tilted back. Pucker your lips, like you would to kiss, and stretch them up as far as possible. Count to 10 and relax, bringing your head up. Repeat five times.

Stick Out Your Tongue

While seated upright with your head tilted back, open your mouth and extend your tongue toward your chin. Try to touch your chin with the tip of your tongue and hold the position for 10 counts.

The Under Bite

Sit upright and tilt your head back. Then, extend your lower lip over your top lip. Be sure to stretch your lower lip as far as possible and hold for a five count. Complete five repetitions.

Jaw Dropper

Start with your lips together while sitting upright. Drop your lower jaw and jut it forward, holding for a 10 count. Repeat five times.

The Hanger

Lie down on your back with your head extended off the edge of your bed. Bring your head slowly toward your chest and hold for a count of 10. Lower your head and repeat five times.
