Following a healthy diet prescribed by nutrition professionals specializing in fibromyalgia can help relieve many of the symptoms of the disease. The healthy nutrition approach is designed to fight the pain by getting the proper nutrients to the affected muscles.

Balance The Minerals

Muscles need the proper balance of the minerals calcium, magnesium, potassium, zinc and manganese. Without these nutrients, the muscles become weak or tight. Foods with the proper balance of minerals include most leafy green vegetables, organic nuts and grains.

Fats For Energy

The body needs healthy fats for energy. It also helps lubricate the body to keep it functioning properly. The healthy fats are found in olive oil, nuts, seeds, salmon, tuna, sardines and other cold-water fish.

Essential Vitamins For Converting Fat

Vitamins E, B1, B2, B3 and beta carotene are needed to help convert fats to energy. Vitamin B12 and iron are essential for the blood to take oxygen throughout the body and renew the cells. Foods rich in the B vitamins, E and beta carotene are leafy green vegetables, organic turkey, organic chicken, wild salmon and nuts.

Protection From Free Radicals

To clean and protect the body from free radicals, which are toxic, vitamin C helps remove the waste from cells. This helps keep the cells elastic and free from pain. Some foods containing vitamin C are cantaloupe, bell peppers, berries and most citrus fruits and juices.

Limit Sugar, Caffeine And Alcohol

According to the National Fibromyalgia Research Association, sugar, caffeine and alcohol may exacerbate the pain by irritating the muscles and stressing the system.
