The ingredients in store-bought shampoos can have a drying effect on your scalp. A dry scalp can result in dandruff and flaking, which in turn can cause itching. You may be able to find several remedies in your very own kitchen which help relieve dryness and itchiness, while leaving your hair shiny and moisturized.
Baking Soda Shampoo
Baking soda can be a beneficial cleanser for the scalp while providing nourishment. Baking soda shampoo helps rid the scalp of dandruff, which can make it feel dry and itchy. Add a bit of water to 2 tablespoons of baking soda so that it forms a thick paste. Massage this paste onto your scalp for approximately 30 seconds. Let the paste sit on your scalp for an additional 30 seconds, then rinse thoroughly. Towel-dry your hair. Use this shampoo regularly to prevent flaking.
Apple Cider Vinegar Shampoo
Using apple cider vinegar as a shampoo is an easy way to bring shine and moisture back to your hair while preventing dryness and itchiness. You will need: 1 ounce olive oil, 1 egg, 1 tablespoon lemon juice and ½ teaspoon apple cider vinegar. Combine these ingredients in a blender and massage into wet hair for several minutes. Rinse thoroughly. Use this shampoo regularly for best results.
Vinegar Rinse
A vinegar rinse is one of the easiest shampoo to make. Simply mix 2 to 3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar into 2 cups of hot water. First rinse you hair with water, and while still wet, work the vinegar rinse through your hair. Massage for several minutes, then rinse out. The vinegar rinse conditions your hair as opposed to stripping it of moisture the way many shampoos do. This treatment does not work well for individuals with greasy hair, as the vinegar can cause it to become more oily.
