Certain foods contain natural detoxification properties. If your body is bombarded with toxins your liver may not be able to process all of them and you could get a serious illness or cancer. Toxins or chemicals are absorbed into your body by inhalation, ingestion and through the skin. Toxins come in the form of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, artificial or modified food ingredients, medications, cigarette smoke and volatile organic compounds in paint, cleaners and furniture.

Fruits

Raw fruits high in antioxidants offer cleansing benefits. Fruits like berries, kiwi and lemons contain high doses of antioxidants and vitamin C. You can blend fruits together for a breakfast smoothie, which not only helps your body detox, but provides you with natural and healthy energy in the morning. Drinking fresh-squeezed lemon juice in filtered water helps you to detoxify your body with antioxidants. Plus, when you drink plenty of water, your body is more able to eliminate toxins through urine.

Unpasteurized Apple Cider Vinegar

Unpasteurized apple cider vinegar can be used as a detoxifying salad dressing by adding a little olive oil or flaxseed oil and herbs. SilverMedicine.com recommends taking unpasteurized apple cider vinegar to strengthen your immune system, prevent heart disease and acid reflux disease.

Spirulina

Spirulina can help you to detoxify your body, because it contains plenty of nutrients that help in protecting your body from toxins. For example, it has carotenoids that protect your body from cell damage. The University of Maryland states that in addition to carotenoids, it contains vitamins, such as vitamin B complex, vitamin E and minerals like copper, iron, zinc, selenium and manganese minerals and protein.

Sulfur-rich Vegetables

Vegetables that contain sulfur help the liver to produce glutathione, which is the main antioxidant that enables toxin elimination, according to "The Huffington Post." Sulfur-rich vegetables include, garlic, onions, broccoli, cauliflower, collard greens, kale, watercress and Brussel sprouts. Garlic contains a valuable detoxifying molecule called allicin. Allicin is activated when raw or uncooked and chopped. "The Journal of Nutrition" states that garlic may be used as a potential microbial in food canning and fights against bacteria and an antibiotic.
