The Vertec device provides you with a measure of your vertical jump. It consists of a steel frame with horizontal vanes at half-inch intervals that rotate out of the way to indicate the height reached, which can range from 6 to 12 feet. Set the device away from objects so you have a comfortable space to jump.
Step 1
Approach the Vertec and fully extend your dominant hand above your head. Move the bottom tab with your fingertips.
Step 2
Adjust the height of the Vertec so the lowest tab is at the same height as the extended top of the fingertips. Raise and lower the Vertec by unscrewing the T-screw on the lower pedestal tube. Tighten the T-screw so that the pole stays in place.
Step 3
Flex the knees and hips without a stutter step. Move your torso forward and down. Swing your arms backward. Explode upward. Hit the tabs so that you can determine the highest point reached.
Step 4
Measure the difference between the starting height and the last tab to obtain the vertical jump height. Count each tab and divide by two to get the measurement in inches.
Tips and Warnings
- Realign the tabs with a pole if measuring multiple jumps.
- You will not attain your full leap if your timing and coordination is off.
