Candidiasis is an infection caused by a fungus known as candida. Some amounts of candida are normal, but problems arise if there is an overgrowth. Overgrowth may occur due to ongoing intake of sugar and carbohydrates or due to long-term use of oral contraceptives or antibiotics. People who develop candidiasis may take medications like antibiotics and antifungals as well as follow a candidiasis diet.
Beef, Chicken and Fish
Meat, chicken and fish are considered to be the richest and most well absorbed sources of iron. Beef chuck, corned beef, flank beef, beef liver and beef round have 2 to 7.5 mg of iron per 3-oz. portion size, according to the University of Illinois. A chicken thigh, breast, leg and liver contain 1.1 to 12.8 mg of iron per 3-oz. serving. For fish, cod, tuna, flounder, oysters and salmon range from .7 to 4.5 mg of iron per 3-oz. serving. A few servings will fulfill your iron needs for the day.
Nut and Beans
Nuts and beans are good a source of iron for candidiasis patients, as they are low in sugar and carbohydrates that feed the bacteria. Almonds contain .7 mg of iron for 10 to 12 almonds, baked beans have 2 mg and black beans have 3.6 mg per cup, baked beans have 4 mg per cup, and kidney beans have 5.2 mg of iron per cup.
Vegetables
Vegetables are good sources of iron, though not as high in protein as some of the other iron sources. Some vegetables can be a choice for candidiasis patients. These vegetables include raw broccoli at 1.1 mg per cup, cooked spinach at 3.2 mg per 1/2 cup and boiled peas at 1.3 mg per 1/2 cup.
