Sambucus Nature's Way Ingredients

Sambucus is an herbal supplement used to strengthen the immune system, especially in winter months. Nature's Way offers two types of Sambucus, the original and an immune formula. Nature's Way Sambucus is available in health food stores and is labeled as safe for anyone age two and above. It is important to consult a physician or health care provider knowledgeable about herbal remedies prior to using the supplement, especially if you take other medications.

Sambucus Original Syrup

Sambucus original syrup contains elderberry extract as its primary ingredient. The University of Maryland Medical Center notes that elderberry can reduce the duration of the common cold and flu when taken within 24 hours of onset. The original syrup contains fructose and natural raspberry flavor to make the syrup more pleasing to the taste. It also contains purified water, glycerin and citric acid.

Sambucus Immune Syrup

Sambucus immune syrup contains elderberry extract, as in the original syrup. To further boost the immune system, both the root and flower of the echinacea plant are used. According to Rx List, echinacea reduces the duration of colds if it is taken at the onset of the cold and continued for 7 to 10 days; echinacea does not prevent illness. The immune syrup also contains vitamin C and zinc which help to boost the immune system.

Sambucus and Dietary Restrictions

Nature's Way manufactures both Sambucus Original Syrup and Immune Syrup to be appropriate for people with dietary restrictions. These products are both gluten-free, so are appropriate for those with gluten allergies or sensitivities. Both products are also free of artificial coloring, artificial flavors, preservatives and are kosher-certified.
