P90X stands for power, 90 days, Xtreme. P90X is a 90-day intense workout program with Tony Horton, involving cardio exercise, yoga, weight lifting and pull-ups and push-ups, a three times per week abdominal routine and core strength focus, according to GaltTech.com.
Strength Training
P90X is heavy on muscle toning with body weight and dumbbells. "Chest and Back" is a body-weight workout that runs 53 minutes, while the "Shoulder and Arms" workout uses dumbbells for each exercise and runs 60 minutes. "Legs and Back" runs 59 minutes, "Chest, Shoulders and Triceps" runs 56 minutes and "Back and Biceps" runs 52 minutes. The workouts combine both body weight and dumbbell exercises.
Cardio
P90X alternates between cardio and strength training routines throughout the week to allow your muscles to recover. "Plyometrics" is a high intensity cardio program that runs 59 minutes, and "Kenpo X" is a kickboxing video that has a running time of 58 minutes. "Cardio X" combines many exercises from various P90X videos for a 44-minute workout.
Stretching and Yoga
"X Stretch" and "Yoga X" are used during the recovery weeks of the P90X program. "X Stretch" is a full-body stretching routine that has a running time of 58 minutes. The "Yoga X" video is the longest workout in the series, running 90 minutes. It increases flexibility while building posture and toning muscles, says WellSphere.com.
Core Training
P90X focuses on core strength and stability in all of its workout videos. However, two workouts, "Ab Ripper X" and "Core Synergistics," will target your abs and lower back. The "Ab Ripper X" video is 15 minutes and guides you through 340 repetitions of extreme abdominal exercises. The "Core Synergistics" video runs 58 minutes and is centered on core strength, balance and flexibility.
