Nutrisystem is a weight loss diet that features packaged Nutrisystem brand meals and snacks. Since Nutrisystem portions are generally small, they are low in calories and can help lead to weight loss. According to Consumer Affairs, many people who have tried the Nutrisystem diet have had a hard time staying on it because they dislike the taste of the foods. If your goal is successful weight loss with the Nutrisystem diet, you can implement a few changes to help make the foods taste better.

Step 1

Choose your own Nutrisystem meals rather than purchasing a shipment of pre-chosen foods. Though the pre-chosen meal shipment will save you money, you may get foods and snacks you don't like. Nutrisystem currently offers meals specifically designed for women, men, people with diabetes and people over the age of 65. By logging on to Nutrisystem's website, you can choose the specific meals you like based on the category you select. For example, if you don't like tomatoes and are diabetic, you might choose to avoid pasta and lasagna dishes in favor of meals like rice dishes and turkey burgers.

Step 2

Add fresh fruits and vegetables to the Nutrisystem foods to make them taste better. The website Diabetes Daily recommends enhancing Nutrisystem meals with fresh produce like sautéed broccoli, raw carrots or fresh berries. Add a serving of vegetables to the lunch and dinner entrees and a serving of fruits to the breakfasts or snacks. Even though fruits and vegetables contribute calories, they are naturally low in calories and have important vitamins and minerals.

Step 3

Use fresh herbs and spices to boost the flavor of Nutrisystem meals. Consumer Affairs reports it has received numerous complaints about the taste of Nutrisystem meals; consumers have said the foods are too salty but still not flavorful enough. To season packaged meals, add fresh herbs and spices such as basil leaves, ground rosemary and thyme. Freshly minced garlic can also boost the aroma and taste of Italian Nutrisystem meals like lasagna.

Step 4

Enhance the textures of the Nutrisystem meals by using whole grains and dairy products. Some Nutrisystem meals contain a lot of sauce but no grain. Pouring the beef stew Nutrisystem dinner over a cup of rice, for example, can alter the texture of your dinner, making it taste better. Another way to make the foods taste better is by topping them with a little cheese. Small changes like these will make Nutrisystem foods taste more like home-cooked food.

Step 5

Heat the meals thoroughly before eating them. Even following the heating instructions on the package can leave certain spots of the Nutrisytstem meals cold. Savory meals generally taste better when warm, so be sure to stir the products halfway through heating and test before sitting down to eat.
