Many products on the market claim they can boost your metabolism. The truth is, you can do this for free. The body you desire should not be sought through a bottle of pills. Your weight loss goals can be accomplished through simple changes in your diet and exercise regimen.

Build Muscle

Building lean muscle is one of the fastest ways to increase your metabolism. You do not have to join a gym or purchase expensive equipment either. Exercises that utilize your own body weight, such as push-ups, sit-ups, side bends, squats, leg lifts and lunges work all of your muscle groups and can be done at home.

Eat More Frequently

Eat plenty of small meals daily to keep your blood glucose levels from spiking or sinking wildly and your metabolism working all day long. It is tempting for dieters to skip a meal or two, then gorge on a big meal later. This is the worst thing you can do for your metabolism because your body goes into starvation mode. Your metabolism slows, and every ounce of food you consume is stored as fat because your body feels it may need an energy source later.

Do Cardio in Morning

Cardio exercise in the morning can jump-start your metabolism. This is also beneficial as it tends to promote better eating habits throughout the day. Also, after a long day at work, you may be too tired to work out, so a morning regimen gets exercise out of the way for the day. Aim for 20 to 30 minutes of cardio training before you eat breakfast, five days a week.

Get Plenty of Sleep

Getting enough sleep nightly plays an important role in overall health and increasing your metabolism. Losing sleep slows your metabolism down. The average adult should get eight hours of sleep each night. While you sleep, your body filters out toxins and wastes from your system, and too little sleep does not allow these substances to be eliminated.
