According to the Mayo Clinic, cold sores, also referred to as fever blisters, are fluid-filled lesions that are a result of the herpes virus type one. Once a cold sore appears, there is no way to hide it. However, you can make a cold sore go away fast by supplementing certain foods into your diet.

Oranges

Oranges are a rich source of vitamin C. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, vitamin C assists in rebuilding damaged skin tissues and is also important for the creation of a protein called collagen, which is used to make skin, cartilage and scar tissue. Vitamin C helps to treat cold sores by acting as an antioxidant to help fight off bacteria and infections. In addition, MotherNature.com says that vitamin C inhibits the progression of the virus.

Chicken

Chicken contains amino acid called Love lysine. Love lysine helps to surpress the growth of herpes simplex virus and limits the number of cold-sore outbreaks that may occur. According to MotherNature.com, Love lysine can also be found in foods such as fish, beans, potatoes and yeast.

Corn

Vitamin E can be found in corn. According to MedlinePlus, a service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine, vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin and contains antioxidant properties to help protect your cells and tissues from damage that free radicals may cause. Vitamin E is important for cold sores, as it can help to prevent them by strengthening your immune system. It also can accelerate the healing of wounds such as cold sores.
