Wii Fit is a new way to exercise and stay in shape at home by using your Nintendo Wii system and balance board attachment. Among the various exercise programs available, yoga is one that may be just right for you. If you are someone who is too shy to sign up for a yoga class or simply feel you are not capable of performing the moves, Wii Fit is a chance for you to give yoga and the various poses a try at home. Many of the Wii Fit poses are basic and intended for the beginner.

Half Moon Pose

The Half-Moon pose, also known as Ardha Chandrasana, begins by standing straight up on the balance board with feet close together and hands pressed together in the prayer position. Slowly raise your hands above your head while keeping them pressed together, reaching high for the ceiling. Then slowly bend to the left at the waist while keeping your hands pressed together and your feet flat on the board. Keep bending over until your body has formed an arc, or half-moon shape. Focus on keeping your center of balance stable. Hold the position for 30 seconds, while breathing steadily. You will feel your side muscles stretching. Slowly return to the standing position and then repeat the pose on the right side.

Warrior Pose

The Warrior pose, or Virabhadrasana, is actually similar to the Warrior II pose in most yoga programs. For the Wii Fit program, the Warrior pose begins by standing straight on the board with your feet together. Slowly step backward with your left foot reaching back until it is straight and your right leg is bent at the knee at 90 degrees. Your right foot should still be on the board. Raise your arms out parallel to the floor and reach them out to the front and back, the same direction as your legs. Your palms should be down and your should be facing forward. Make sure your heels are in line with each other. Hold the pose and breathe steadily for 30 seconds. Then slowly return to the starting position and repeat the pose with the opposite leg.

Tree Pose

The Tree Pose, also called Vrksasana, should start by standing on the balance board with both feet close together. While bending your right knee slightly, shift your weight to the left, and reach down with your right hand and grab your ankle. Slowly draw your right foot up until the sole of your foot is against your left thigh. Your pelvis should be directly over your left foot. Raise your hands to the prayer position and then slowly raise them above your head while clasped together. Hold this position and breathe slowly for about 30 seconds. Then slowly return to the standing position and repeat the exercise with the opposite leg.
