Male infertility is a problem that many men deal with around the world. The Institute of Nutrition reported research that showed insufficient nutrients in men can decrease fertility. Antioxidants provided by vitamins can protect and improve the reproductive organs in males. Men should begin a consistent regimen of fertility vitamins as early as five months before they desire to conceive. Consult your doctor about taking natural supplements for fertility, as some supplements may interact with your current medications.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C may be effective in the treatment of infertility in men. Vitamin C is beneficial because it helps to promote motility in the sperm. Vitamin C is particularly effective in men who are having fertility issues and also smoke. Smokers have been found to be deficient in vitamin C, according to Herbs2000.com. Fertilinet.com states that taking vitamin C may also help increase sperm count. The higher the sperm count is, the better chance that healthy sperm will seek out an egg and fertilization will occur. Additionally, vitamin C can help prevent sperm from clumping together, which will make the sperm more motile.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that helps protect the DNA within sperm. Dr. Marilyn Glenville, Ph.D. recommends vitamin E supplements for men going through in vitro fertilization treatments, as it has improved the fertilization rate in men by more than 9 percent. Vitamin E may also improve the growth, development and fertilization potential in men. The suggested dose for fertilization is 15mg of vitamin E each day.

Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 is a helpful supplement for all men who have fertility issues. According to Fertilinet.com, men should take 1,000mcg of vitamin B12 per day. Talking a B12 supplement will raise B12 levels in the body, which will increase sperm count as well as motility. B12 supplements may help men who have a sperm count of less than 20 million per ml, or less than 50 percent motility rate. Vitamin B12 alone may not be enough to vastly increase fertility, but when combined with other natural supplements it can be a substantial improvement to fertility in men.
