A colon detox is the premise of a natural fruit juice diet. It serves as a natural method for removing toxins and bulk wastes from the intestinal wall so the intestines can better absorb nutrients. However, the Mayo Clinic says that science has not proven the effectiveness of popular detoxification diets -- whether using natural juices alone or in combination with other remedies -- but many people report feeling better after going on a natural, juice-cleansing diet.

Step 1

Set aside two to three days to cleanse your colon using a natural juice diet plan. The best time to do a colon cleanse with juices is on the weekends or when you don't have to work. You may make frequent trips to the restroom. Dr. Andrew Weil, an integrative medical doctor, recommends using a variety of fruits and vegetables, preferring organically grown varieties. He prefers using apple, carrot and lemon juice. You may dilute the juices with distilled water if the consistency is too thick for your preferences.

Step 2

Consume juices and water at regular intervals throughout the day, about every hour to hour and a half. Sip on water between intervals.

Step 3

Prepare fruit and vegetable juices in a juice machine. Remove the skins of non- organic fruits and vegetables. Store juice in the refrigerator for use throughout the day. Prepare fresh juices each morning, discarding unused juices sitting for over 24 hours.

Step 4

Add 1 to 2 tbsp. of flaxseed oil to an 8 oz. glass of juice or water. You may use ground flaxseed to mix into juice or water, but do not use flaxseeds. Dr. Johanna Budwig, a biochemist and author of "Flax Oil as a True Aid Against Arthritis, Heart Infarction, Cancer, and other Diseases," recommends adding 1 to 2 tbsp. of ground flaxseed to the juices in place of flaxseed oil if you wish.

Step 5

Return to solid foods gradually. The day after you decide to end your juice cleanse, begin your meals with a fruit or vegetable juice. After 15 minutes, eat raw fruit or steamed vegetables.

Tips and Warnings

  • Experiment with different juice recipes, but always remove seeds or pits before juicing. Generally, fruits contain more sugar than vegetables, so drink more vegetable juices than fruit juices. A natural juice diet not only cleanses the intestines, but also promotes weight loss. Any weight lost on a low-calorie diet will likely return, and sometimes you may put on even more weight that what you had before you began the diet.
  • You should never go on a juice diet unless you talk to your doctor first, especially if you are diabetic or currently treated for a digestive condition.
