The Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) Behavioral Health Clinic specializes in treating people with substance abuse issues as well as those with mental health problems. According to TreatmentCenters.com, the program focuses on people with co-occurring mental diseases such as depression and bipolar disorder, women, criminal justice clients and those who have been cited for drunk driving.

Geography

The OHSU Behavioral Health Clinic is located on Southwest Adler Street in Portland, Oregon. The facility is centrally located near Marquam Hill.

Payment

Working with state and federal referrals, OHSU accepts Medicaid and other state-financed clients. It also takes self-payments and most private health insurance plans. The facility can work out a sliding fee scale and works on other funding options for payment assistance.

Function

The OHSU drug treatment program is an outpatient program that offers individual therapy, psychiatric evaluation, medication management, family counseling and group counseling as part of its total addiction treatment plan.

Staff

The staff at OHSU Behavioral Health Clinic is comprised of social workers, psychiatrists, counselors and a nurse practitioner. Paul Leung, a psychiatrist in behavioral health, is the director as of November 2009.

Services

In addition to drug treatment, OHSU has experience treating compulsive gamblers, post-traumatic stress, anxiety and those with panic disorders.

Identification

In 2008, the center was renamed the Avel Grady Center for Healing to acknowledge the diverse Portland Community, and to remove some of the stigma associated with addiction and mental health issues.
