Nutrisystem is a diet program that provides members with prepackaged food. Dieters don't have to measure calories, protein or carbohydrate amounts as meals are prepared to allow for the proper levels of nutrients. Reviewers at Diets in Review like the Nutrisystem program because of the specialized male menus that are adjusted for the right calories needed by men to lose weight.

Types

Nutrisystem offers three types of diet plans for men--the advanced men's program, a program for seniors called men's silver and a third plan for men with Type 2 diabetes called men's diabetes. There also is a vegetarian option.

Meals

A typical dinner of chicken and dumplings has about 270 calories, whereas a cheese ravioli dinner packs about 250 calories. Lunches such as black bean tortilla soup or chicken noodle soup are less than 200 calories. Breakfasts that range from bran muffins to blueberry pancakes also steer well clear of 200 calories.

Benefits

Snacks are integral to Nutrisystem plans. Men's dessert and snack menus include foods such as cheese puffs that come in at about 150 calories and fudge brownies at about 170 calories.

Function

The men's silver plan includes calories that promote heart health such as soluble fibers. The diabetic plan touts calories that will lower blood sugar levels by as much as five times.

Consideration

Because the calories and choices are pre-planned, dieters do not learn new eating habits that can help men with long-term weight management.

Warning

Researchers at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center report the low glycemic index calories provided on the men's Nutrisystem plan can be difficult to maintain for men who eat meals with family members and in restaurants.
