Aside from minor aesthetic differences and minute size modifications, the Total Gym 1500 works like any other Total Gym model: You perch on the glideboard and push or pull yourself up inclined rails to work every major muscle group in your body. The 1500 is a basic model, without many of the accessories available on other Total Gym equipment.
Size and Capacity
The Total Gym 1500 measures 90 inches long by 18 inches wide by 48 inches high when deployed for use. It folds to 8 inches long by 18 inches wide by 48 inches high and is small enough to store in a closet. The glideboard itself measures 13 inches wide by 40 inches long, and the 1500's maximum user weight capacity is 275 lbs.
Attachments
The Total Gym 1500 comes with a wing attachment for pull-ups, press-ups and leg curls, and a leg pulley attachment for mule kicks and hip adduction.
Resistance
You control the resistance level by adjusting the incline rails higher for more resistance, or lower for less resistance. The Total Gym 1500 has six resistance settings, allowing you to lift anywhere from 6 percent of your body weight at the lowest setting up to 50 percent of your body weight at the highest resistance setting.
Exercises
The Total Gym 1500 comes with an exercise video and an exercise booklet to illustrate several basic Total Gym workouts. You can use this machine for gym-style exercises such as the seated row, chest press and biceps curls. The Total Gym 1500 also shines at recreating gymnastics-rings style exercises such as the iron cross, and also can be used for pullovers.
Price and Warranty
The Total Gym 1500 had a manufacturer suggested retail price of about $250, with a one-year warranty on the parts and frame.
