The stomach flu, also known as viral gastroenteritis can sap your energy and make you feel quite uncomfortable. Symptoms such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, fever and muscle aches can last for a couple of weeks in some cases. Regaining your strength after the stomach flu takes time.

Step 1

Sleep as much as you can. Get at least eight hours of sleep at night and nap during the day if you are able.

Step 2

Drink a lot of water and other fluids to replace what you lost during your illness. Avoid caffeinated drinks that will dehydrate you further. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends keeping an oral rehydration solution or ORS, on hand in households with children. You can purchase an ORS at your pharmacy without a prescription.

Step 3

Resume your regular diet to slowly allow your stomach time to adjust to eating normally again. Avoid greasy or spicy foods that may aggravate your stomach.

Step 4

Visit your doctor if your strength does not return within a couple weeks, or if your flu symptoms do not dissipate.
