At certain times in life, you may find yourself having to walk with the help of crutches due to a sports injury, accident or surgery. Crutches are necessary when you are unable to put weight on a leg or foot. Learning to walk with crutches is not complicated, but traveling up stairs may take some practice.
Step 1
Approach the staircase and place both crutches under one arm as you grab onto the rail with the other hand.
Step 2
Step up to the first step with your good leg, leaving your crutches beside the bad leg for support.
Step 3
Push down on the crutches and step onto the first step with your bad leg. Bring the crutches up to the first step once both feet are planted on the step.
Step 4
Repeat the sequence until you are at the top of the stairs.
Tips and Warnings
- If there is no railing on the stairs, leave one crutch under each arm and perform the same movement.
