Tremors comprise a nervous system disorder characterized by shaking due to a loss of muscle control. Simple tasks, such as writing, chopping vegetables or shaving, become difficult challenges when suffering with hand tremors. Tremors are often a symptom associated with Parkinson's disease; however, not all sufferers of tremors have a serious underlying disorder. Tremors are often triggered by stress, exhaustion, caffeine or cold or hot temperatures, according to website MayoClinic.com. Certain herbal treatments can alleviate tremors. Be sure to discuss herbal remedies with a qualified health care practitioner.

Skullcap

Skullcap is an herb native to North America, used medicinally for centuries. The primary application for skullcap is as a therapy for nervous disorders including hand tremors, according to website Holistic Online. Skullcap may be taken with lady-slipper to improve its efficacy. Prepare an infusion of the herb by steeping 3 to 9 g in a quart of hot water for 10 to 15 minutes. Consume the tea three times per day. Individuals who suffer with diabetes, or blood sugar disorders, should not take Chinese skullcap as it may lower blood sugar levels. Be sure to consult a physician prior to using skullcap medicinally.

Lady-Slipper

Lady-slipper root is considered a "nervine," which means it primarily treats disorders of the nervous system. The herb is an effective treatment for tremors, according to the book, "The Essential Guide to Herbal Safety." Prepare a decoction with 3 to 9 g of the herb steeped in a quart of hot water for 10 to 15 minutes, taken daily in divided doses. Be aware that contact with the small hairs on the lady-slipper flower can cause inflammation of the skin. A consultation with a health care expert is necessary prior to taking medicinal herbs.

Valerian

Valerian has long been used medicinally to treat nervous disorders, including hand tremors. The herb was particularly popular in 17th century Europe. The recommended dose for hand tremors is 200 mg of the supplement, taken three to four times per day. Be aware that in rare instances, instead of improving, the condition may worsen after taking valerian. Talk with your doctor prior to taking valerian as a medical treatment.
