Fitting exercise into a busy work schedule can be tough for anyone, but when you have kids, it can seem impossible to find the time. No matter how busy you are, it is important to find the time for fitness. A regular workout routine helps you to keep weight off, strengthen your heart, relieve stress, sleep better and helps prevent dangerous medical conditions. With a little foresight and organized planning, you can fit exercise into your day.
Set an Appointment
Planning out your day in advance will help you to manage your workload, kids' schedules and still fit your workout session in. Set your workout at a time that you will realistically be able to get away for 30 to 60 minutes with minimal interruptions and make the session an appointment, which you are not able to break. Plan your exercise session out in advance as well, so that you will be able to get right to it without feeling rushed or overwhelmed.
Play with Your Kids
Workouts do not have to be done in a gym; any sort of physical activity that accelerates your heart and burns calories is considered exercise. Taking a break from the office and playing with your kids is an ideal way to spend quality time together while you work up a sweat and teach your kids healthy habits. Go for a bike ride, play hide and seek, run around the park, jump rope together, give hopscotch a try or create an obstacle course that all of you can enjoy and have fun with.
Workout Videos
Exercise videos and DVDs make working out at home easy; whenever you have the time during the day you can just pop a DVD on and fit your workout in. The large selection of workout DVDs on the market today means that you can do a different type of workout everyday. Whether you prefer cardio, strength training, yoga, dance or body-part specific, such as your abs and core, there are numerous videos from which to choose.
Home Exercise Equipment
Many of the cardio exercise machines that you see in the gym are available for home use, and at affordable prices. Having a treadmill, stationary bike or elliptical trainer in your home will let you jump on any time that you can take a break from work or when the kids are occupied playing games or watching television. Cardiovascular exercise, such as running, helps you to burn calories while you also build lean muscle mass in your core, glutes and legs.
