The IsoWhey brand features a line of nutritional products consisting of whey protein. Whey is an ingredient in a number of dietary supplements and helps support bone health, promotes a strong immune system and plays a role in weight management, according to the Whey Protein Institute. Speak with your doctor before taking IsoWhey or any other protein supplement.

Background

The Australian company PharmaFoods manufactures and distributes the IsoWhey brand. The various IsoWhey products contain whey protein, along with a number of vitamins and minerals to provide meal replacements. The meal replacements aim to help you lose weight by keeping you feeling fuller for longer, reducing the need to eat. The IsoWhey website claims you can lose between 2 and 4 lbs. per week.

Products

The IsoWhey line include various flavored powdered shake mixes, high-protein snacks and functional bars and fiber capsules. The powdered shake mixes, known as IsoWhey Complete, come in flavors such as double chocolate, French vanilla and banana smoothie. Snack and functional bar flavors include double chocolate crunch, vanilla yogurt and apricot and chocolate berry, pomegranate and green tea.

Ingredients

The IsoWhey products contain a variety of ingredients that are supposed to provide complete nutrition without having the need to eat large meals. Ingredients for powdered shake mixes include vitamin A, D and E, folic acid, riboflavin, zinc, manganese, calcium, potassium, as well as three branched-chain amino acids, which constitute the whey protein. IsoWhey fiber capsules contain extracts from the Amorphophallus rivieri, or konjac root. The capsules are supposed to promote a feeling of satiety to help with weight loss, according to the IsoWhey website.

IsoWhey Weight Management Program

The IsoWhey website provides a comprehensive weight management program. The program outlines how you should approach weight loss. IsoWhey makes it clear that protein shakes alone will not lead to significant changes. You will need to make significant changes to your diet and lifestyle to lose weight and maintain weight loss. The program provides a six- and 10-week schedule that includes healthy meal ideas, recipes and exercise guidelines.

Safety

As with any dietary supplement, talk to your doctor before taking IsoWhey. Tell your doctor if you are taking any medications. Side effects are always possible with supplements that do not undergo stringent clinical trials. Reported side effects of taking whey include throat itching, facial swelling, diarrhea and vomiting, according to MayoClinic.com. Whey protein may also lower your blood sugar levels. Be extra careful if you are a diabetic or are hypoglycemic and plan on taking whey protein.
