According to "Pounds and Inches" by Dr. A.T.W. Simeons, Phase Three of the HCG diet is the most important. This is the phase of the diet that resets the hypothalamus and stabilizes your weight loss from Phase Two. Because of the importance of this phase, you must follow this one as strictly as Phase Two. It can be slightly harder, however, because a list of allowable foods is not provided, so it is easier to make a mistake. There are tips though, that can help with Phase Three of the HCG Diet.
Carbohydrates and Sugars
The most important tip of being successful on Phase Three is to absolutely abstain from carbohydrates or sugars. The intake of either of these even in minuscule amounts can and will cause weight gain and jeopardize your stabilization. Be sure to look at the labels of all foods carefully. Cane sugar, cane juice, dextrose, maltose, maltodextrin and sucrose are all examples of sugars found in in foods that can derail your stabilization. Potatoes, rice, breads, pastas, bananas, pineapples, grapes and mangoes are all examples of foods to avoid.
Calories
On Phase Two of the HCG diet, your calories were restricted to 500. On Phase Three however, you'll need to drastically increase your caloric intake. Go online and find a caloric intake calculator and determine how many calories you should be eating for your weight. Although it may seem that you will gain weight if you eat the accurate amount of calories, the opposite is true in fact. You may notice that you are gaining weight, If you gain weight, you may want to increase the amount of calories you are eating. This is a common culprit of weight gain. Increase your calories rather than decrease them if you notice that you are gaining weight.
Weight
Your weight should not fluctuate above or below 2 lbs. In order to closely monitor this, it is imperative that you weigh yourself everyday after waking up and before urinating. Your weight is most accurate during this time and will allow you to decide your plan of action for the day. If you notice that your weight has increased more than two pounds, even just a little, you must do what is called a "steak day." A steak day means you must skip breakfast and lunch, and then have a huge steak with either an apple or a tomato. Dr. Simeons states that "if a meal is skipped on the day in which a gain is registered in the morning this brings about an immediate drop of often over a pound." This will get you back to under the 2 lbs. where you are supposed to be and will allow you to stabilize correctly.
