Viagra Information

Viagra is a medication used to treat a man's inability to sustain an erection. The medicine works to increase blood flow to the penis. Viagra will not cure erectile dysfunction issues or increase sexual desire. Sildenafil is the generic name for Viagra.

Uses

Along with treating erectile dysfunction, Viagra treats pulmonary arterial hypertension by increasing blood flow to the lungs.

Administration

Viagra is taken as needed 30 minutes prior to sexual activity, but no more often than once daily. An erection will be possible for up to four hours after taking the medication.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Viagra include dizziness, headache, difficulty sleeping and flushing. An increased inability to distinguish the color blue from green may also occur.

Cost

Depending on the prescription plan and pharmacy used, one Viagra pill ranges from $10 to $20.

Precautions

An erection lasting longer than four hours may cause permanent harm to the penis. Any sustained erection lasting this long needs immediate medical attention.
