Wobenzym N is a supplement made up of the pancreatic enzymes pancreatin, trypsin and chymotrypsin. It also contains papain and bromelain, known for their anti-inflammatory benefits. Wobenzym N is purported to help with arthritis and joint pain, which stem from inflammation. Still, there may be possible side effects to this product, including intestinal upset, allergy and risk of bleeding.

Gastrointestinal Issues

One possible side effect of Wobenzym N is gastrointestinal upset. According to the National Institutes of Health MedlinePlus website, bromelain has been associated with diarrhea and stomach upset on rare occasions. This may be due to taking excess amounts of the substance. Therefore, taking only the appropriate amount of Wobenzym N may negate this possible side effect.

Allergy

Wobenzym N also carries the risk of allergic reaction. If you suffer from an allergy to pineapple, wheat, celery, papain, carrot, fennel, cypress pollen or grass pollen, it is possible to have a reaction to bromelain, which is an ingredient in Wobenzym. Allergic reactions can cause further damage to digestion, which is often the reason Wobenzym in taken in the first place.

Bleeding Risk

There is a small chance that Wobenzym N may increase blood loss. Bromelain is a natural blood thinner, according to Mark Stengler, author of "The Natural Physician's Healing Therapies." If you are currently taking blood thinning medication, it is possible that combining Wobenzym N with the medication may lead to excessive bleeding with injury..
