"POINTS" is a registered trademark of Weight Watchers that is used as a unit of measure derived from a calculation of fat grams, grams of fiber and amount of calories, according to "Weight Watchers She Loses, He Loses: The Truth about Men, Women, and Weight Loss." Instead of counting calories, the Weight Watchers plan has its dieters count points. Eating the amount of points allotted to you daily will result in a steady weight loss of approximately 1 lb. to 2 lbs. per week, says "Weight Watchers Weight Loss That Lasts."
Step 1
Determine your base points, which is the amount of points you are allotted based upon your gender. Men are allotted 8 points, women are allotted 2 points and women who are nursing are allotted 12 points.
Step 2
Determine your age points, which is the amount of points you are allotted based upon your age. People ages 17 to 26 receive 4 points, ages 27 to 37 receive 3 points, ages 38 to 47 receive 2 points, ages 48 to 57 receive 1 point and those 58 years old and older don't receive any points.
Step 3
Determine your weight points, which is the amount of points you are allotted based upon your weight. The first two numbers of your weight in pounds are your weight points. For example, if you weigh 250 lbs., you have 25 weight points.
Step 4
Determine how many height points you are allotted, which is the amount of points you receive daily based upon your height. If you are 5 ft tall or shorter, you do not receive any height points. If you are 5 ft 1 in. to 5 ft. 9 in. tall, you receive 1 point and if 5 ft. 10 in. tall or taller, you receive 2 points.
Step 5
Determine how many activity points you receive daily. If you are mostly sitting, you do not receive any activity points. If you are mostly standing, you receive 2 activity points. If you are mostly walking throughout the day, you receive 4 activity points . If you perform physical labor most of the day, you receive 6 activity points.
Step 6
Add your base, age, weight, height and activity points together to determine the total number of points you are allotted daily. For example, if you are a 5 ft. tall, 30-year-old woman who is not lactating, currently weighing 220 lbs. and sit most of the day, you are allotted 27 points daily.
