Information on the ProForm 495 PI Treadmill

The Pro-Form 495Pi Cooling Breeze treadmill was manufactured by ICON Health & Fitness, which creates products under several brands such as NordicTrack, Weider, Pro-Form, Freemotion Fitness, Healthrider, Image, Weslo, Gold's Gym, iFit, Epic and Reebok. Although the production and sales of the treadmill stopped, online stores offer replacement parts. Although Amazon.com customers gave it a 4 out of 5 review as of December 2010, an extensive review site called the "Treadmill Sensei" which has been reviewing treadmills since 2006 gave the Pro-Form 495Pi 1 out of 5.

Assembly

To save on shipping cost,s the unit comes disassembled, so you must build the unit using the included product manual found at iconservice.com or by calling customer service at 888-936-4266 if you've lost it. It takes two people to assemble the treadmill and you much have a rubber mallet, Phillips screwdriver and adjustable wrench. The product includes Allen wrenches.

Features

The treadmill has an 18 by 45 inch running area and folds up to save space when not in use. Its 2.25 horsepower lets you operate at up to 10 miles per hour, so you can walk or sprint. Its incline ranges from 0 to 10 degrees if you want to run hills. It can monitor your heart rate to make sure you are running at your target range and predict calories burned. To keep cool it has an integrated cup holder and fan.

Operating

To operate, plug in the unit and make sure the reset switch near the power cable is set to the "Reset" position. Attach the key clip to your clothes and insert the key into the console to hear a turning on sound. This key and clip setup will shut off the device in emergencies. To start and speed up the unit press the "+" button listed under the "DIGITAL SPEED" section. The button labeled "-" to the left of the "DIGITAL SPEED" decreases your speed and the "STOP" button gradually brings the machine to a stop. The "POWER INCLINE" section functions the same as the speed. On the bottom left side of the console you can press your thumb against a sensor to measure your heart rate. On the top left side of the console you can toggle the fan.

Cautions

Keep the treadmill on a flat surface with 8 feet of room behind it and 2 feet on the sides. Children below 12 years old, pets, multiple concurrent users and people over 250 lbs. should not use the treadmill. The treadmill requires a 450 joule, 400 volt max, 15 amp surge suppressor, or damage can occur to the unit. Although there is a heart sensor, you should use it as a guideline and not for accuracy as a medical device.
