Endorsed by Suzanne Somers and sold through infomercials, the ThighMaster is designed to provide a total body workout. With a slogan of, "Squeeze your way to a shapely figure," the ThighMaster can be used to perform a total body workout without numerous pieces of expensive gym equipment. Using the ThighMaster, however, as with any exercise program, requires consulting your doctor before using.
Function
The ThighMaster uses two separate pieces of equipment -- the Thigh Master Gold and the Thigh Master LBX. Using both thigh masters allows you to train the upper and lower body for a total body workout. The Gold functions by squeezing to the inside and is used to work the inner thighs, stomach and upper arms, while the LBX functions by pushing the ThighMaster out and is used for the glutes and outer thighs.
Time Frame
To experience results with the ThighMaster, you will need to spend at least 20 to 30 minutes per day working out, according to the ThighMaster website. ThighMaster also suggests that you can perform the entire workout at one time or split it into several smaller workouts throughout the day. Always start every workout with a proper warm-up and finish with a cool-down routine. Perform about 12 to 24 repetitions on every exercise for a total of one to three sets.
Features
The ThighMaster is designed with two padded arms that are connected with a middle pivot point consisting of a spring. The compact design can be used while traveling or working out at home. You use the ThighMaster by either squeezing the padded arms together on the ThighMaster Gold or pushing them apart on the ThighMaster LBX. The spring on the inside of the padded arms allows the ThighMaster to return to the starting position so you can perform the recommended number of repetitions.
Benefits
Along with the two separate machines, the ThighMaster system includes an instructional DVD that includes sample workout routines along with 12 upper and lower body exercises. You can also perform additional exercises based on your individual fitness goals. For example, if your goal is to tone the upper arms, you can perform an extra set of arm exercises.
Considerations
Following proper exercise technique and mechanics can improve the overall benefits from the ThighMaster, along with reducing the potential for injuries. For example, focus on exhaling during the contraction phase of the repetition that is completed during the squeezing or pushing apart of the ThighMaster. Follow that by inhaling during the release phase and avoid holding your breath. Always consult your doctor before starting an exercise program, and consider hiring a personal fitness trainer for personalized workout advice.
