For many, the desire to lose weight quickly can be a powerful motivating factor to stop eating unhealthy foods and finally get on the treadmill. But if you don't see results, it's easy to get discouraged and give up, going back to your old lifestyle. Weight loss tips can help you lose weight quickly -- the National Institutes of Health recommends a pace of 1 to 2 pounds per week -- so you can feel more confident about yourself and your appearance.

Be More Active

Exercise is important when losing weight, but there are so many more opportunities to burn calories where you least expect them. Burning more calories throughout each day will help the weight come off faster. Take every opportunity you can to be physically active. Take the stairs instead of the escalator at the mall. Park at the end of the mall parking lot and walk a few hundred extra yards. Mow your lawn yourself rather than hiring a company or teenager to do it. Go for walks in the evenings or during the day rather than sitting on the couch watching TV. Look for every opportunity you can find to be active.

Find Physical Fitness Activities You Enjoy

Some people hate getting on a treadmill, stationary bike or going to an aerobics class. But that's not the only way to get quality cardiovascular exercise in, which is essential to losing weight quickly. Find aerobic activity you love and are passionate about. Perhaps it's rollerblading through the park or jogging with your dog. Find a sport you enjoy, such as tennis or basketball and see if there are any organized leagues or clubs in your area. If you find something you enjoy, you're more likely to want to do it on a regular basis.

Cut Out Liquid Calories

Liquid calories like sugary drinks and sodas are double trouble -- they provide little to no nutritional value but are still packed with calories, and they often go overlooked as a source of calories, meaning you may be consuming more calories each day than you think. Drink more water throughout the day, which is completely calorie free and helps keep you hydrated. If you crave sweet drinks, try switching to diet or sugar-free drinks that are lower in calories or have no calories at all.

Don't Get Discouraged

When you step on the scale and don't see the number you want, or mess up and eat an unhealthy meal, it can be overwhelming and feels like all your hard work has gone down the drain. But giving up and getting discouraged will only set you back that much more and make quick weight loss more difficult. See your weight loss as a lifestyle change and not just a temporary exercise in self-control. If you mess up and eat a cheeseburger, resolve to be better the next day rather than throwing in the towel. Set long-term goals as well as short-term milestones you can reach. Celebrate when you achieve a goal although not with unhealthy food.
