According to the National Geographic website, the brain is the control center, which contains billions of nerves that process information to other parts of our body. MedlinePlus says that certain trauma that affects the brain can damage your hearing also. Luckily, there is a selection of vitamins that you can take on a daily basis that help to promote a healthy brain and hearing.
Vitamin C
According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin and as a result, it is not stored in your body. Vitamin C contains antioxidant properties which can help to protect your brain from damage that may be caused by free radicals. Free radicals can contribute to the development of some cancers such as brain cancer. In addition, vitamin C assists in the synthesis of the neurotransmitter norepinephrine, which is important to help ensure that your brain is functioning properly.
Vitamin E
According to a 2004 issue of BBC News Online, vitamin E may be able to help restore hearing in those who have become deaf for no reason. A study conducted by the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology found that 66 patients who suffered from sudden hearing loss and were provided with vitamin E came to a quick recovery. Half of the patients were given 400mg of vitamin E twice everyday. Also, like vitamin C, vitamin E is an antioxidant vitamin and prevents the formation of free radicals.
Vitamin B12
According to the American Academy of Neurology -- also known as AAN, vitamin B12 may be able to help protect the brain during old age. A study conducted by the AAN with 107 people between the ages of 61 and 87, underwent brain scans and were required to give blood to check their levels of vitamin B12. Patients were asked to return five years later. The study found that people who had normal or higher levels of vitamin B12 in their blood were six times less likely to experience brain shrinkage.
