While vitamin C has been shown to lower uric acid levels in the body, it has not been demonstrated to be an effective treatment for gout. Vitamin C can be found in a number of supplements, but natural sources of vitamin C, such as fruits and vegetables, may be more beneficial.
Vitamin B5
Vitamin B5, also known as pantothenic acid, can literally melt away uric acid crystals in your body. Dr. Ronald Hoffman explains that vitamin B5 is needed for your body to break down and excrete uric acid. If your vitamin B5 levels become too low, your uric acid levels may rise and gout symptoms may occur. Stress is a common cause of low vitamin B5 levels.
Vitamin B9
Vitamin B9, or folic acid, has been shown to help lower uric acid levels people with gout. HealthGuidance.org recommends taking supplements of multivitamins that contain vitamin B9 to lower uric acid levels. Many people with gout claim that there is some benefit in taking vitamin B9 supplements. However, the University of Michigan Health System explains that some studies have failed to show any positive effects of folic acid for reducing uric acid levels or gout.
